Tomorrow is the 4th of July in the U.S., which will pass quite unnoticed here, but I have so many years of fond memories of barbecuing and visiting with friends and family in the hot sun, that I thought a cool sorbet would be a great virtual contribution. Comment #29, loulou, email me at msadventuresinitaly ((at)) sararosso [{dot}] com. with your address!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Based on the <strong>Fresh Fig Ice Cream<\/strong> recipe in <a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/msadventuresinitaly-20\/detail\/1580088082\/104-3642057-0735918\"><strong>The Perfect Scoop<\/strong><\/a>, it&#8217;s a bit different as I&#8217;m using half the amount of figs and adding water instead of heavy cream to make sorbet. Also, if you can get a hold of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mightyfoods.com\/archives\/2006\/08\/recipe_baked_black_mission_fig.html\">Black Mission Figs<\/a> he uses, your results will be that beautiful purple like in his book (due to their dark purple skins).<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/701645169\/\" title=\"Photo Sharing\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1241\/701645169_ef35c06d68.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" alt=\"Figs Ready for Cooking\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<h3>Fresh Fig Sorbet<\/h3>\n<p>10 figs (about 1 pound\/500g)<br \/>\n1\/4c. (75ml) water<br \/>\n1\/3c. (75g)  sugar<br \/>\n1 lemon (untreated, you will need a clean peel)<\/p>\n<p>1 1\/2 c. water (375ml)<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut the ends (and stem pieces) from the figs, and cut into large chunks (keep the skins on). Add the 1\/4c. water to the fig pieces in a medium frying pan or saucepan and zest the lemon directly into the mix. Cover and cook for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally. <\/li>\n<li>Add the sugar and stir with the lid off until they start to break down and get &#8220;jamlike.&#8221; Remove from heat and let cool. Puree the mixture (I used my <a href=\"http:\/\/astore.amazon.com\/msadventuresinitaly-20\/detail\/B000PJ70HC\/102-1525307-1112925\">trusty wand blender<\/a>) and slowly incorporate the 1 1\/2c. water while blending. Taste and add more water and\/or lemon juice if necessary. <\/li>\n<li>Pour into a freezer-safe dish and freeze for several hours (or use your ice cream machine). I used a low, throwaway container that is good to bring with you to parties, so you can forget it! Set out for 5-10 minutes before serving to soften.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p align=\"center\">\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/701641161\/\" title=\"Photo Sharing\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1099\/701641161_7bd52e562b.jpg?resize=333%2C500\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" alt=\"Fresh Fig Sorbet\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>This is a delicately-flavored sorbet but very refreshing, and fresh figs are abundant at this time of year so it&#8217;s easy to whip up a batch!
