This wedding was S&#8217; cousin and it was an intercultural marriage, in that she is Pugliese and he is Abruzzese. :) The wedding had strong Pugliese influences, but took place in the Abruzzo region which was nice because it meant I got to see a different part of the Italian countryside in the summer.<\/p>\n<p>The church was beautiful and had a great view. We could see clear down the Abruzzo coast to Puglia. Some of my favorite pictures come from the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Golden_hour_%28photography%29\">golden hour<\/a> in churches.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Light and dark at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5007498710\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4088\/5007498710_b71e07d2d4.jpg?resize=333%2C500\" alt=\"Light and dark at an Italian wedding\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are the bride and groom at the wedding &#8211; the church was stunning but with the staircase in between them and most of the spectators you did feel a bit removed from the scene.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Bride and groom at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5007498814\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4145\/5007498814_5ed3512720.jpg?resize=333%2C500\" alt=\"Bride and groom at an Italian wedding\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But who are we kidding? <strong>On to the wedding feast!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As the years go by, I definitely enjoy going to weddings, and the more  extravagant they are, the happier I am that I am just a guest and not  paying for the cost of the wedding myself.<\/p>\n<p>I have seen carved watermelons abound at weddings in the past few years &#8211; first at my friend&#8217;s wedding in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msadventuresinitaly.com\/blog\/category\/abroad\/india\/\">India<\/a>, and then at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msadventuresinitaly.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/13\/a-wedding-in-sicily-and-a-sicilian-food-feast\/\">wedding a few years ago in Sicily<\/a>. Do share.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Carved watermelons at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5007499720\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4150\/5007499720_05cc074a5b.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" alt=\"Carved watermelons at an Italian wedding\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The wedding feast started off with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msadventuresinitaly.com\/blog\/2008\/03\/27\/the-guide-to-italian-aperitivo-and-drinks-in-italy\/\"><strong><em>aperitivo<\/em><\/strong><\/a>, a pre-dinner drink and a massive <strong><em>antipasti<\/em><\/strong> buffet. Here are some of my favorites.<\/p>\n<p>I never appreciated the noble <strong><em>polipo<\/em><\/strong>, octopus, as much as I do now that I live in Italy. One of my favorite dishes is grilled octopus and this is a close favorite &#8211; <strong><em>insalata di mare<\/em><\/strong>, seafood salad, with marinated octopus taking center stage as the main ingredient. It&#8217;s usually served cold.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Insalata di mare - octopus salad at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5006889727\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4149\/5006889727_683d701690.jpg?resize=333%2C500\" alt=\"Insalata di mara - octopus salad at an Italian wedding\" width=\"333\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Scampi<\/strong><\/em>, prawns with claws, set out on a plate. I normally roll up my sleeves and get a nut cracker out when presented with such a plate, but when dressed in wedding finery I thought it best to pass on such labor-intensive food.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Scampi, prawns with claws, at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5006889163\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4106\/5006889163_f9ecbe5a4c.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" alt=\"Scampi, prawns with claws, at an Italian wedding\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Again, one of my favorite snacks &#8211; <strong><em>Grana Padano<\/em><\/strong> cheese chunked up and waiting to be speared with your toothpick. I brought a large slice of <strong><em>Parmigiano Reggiano<\/em><\/strong> to the US for a meetup with my colleagues recently and I used a knife to chunk up the cheese similarly in this manner. A few of them weren&#8217;t sure how to eat it, as they had been exposed to parmigiano only by grating it over pasta. Tsk! :) I told them what they were missing and that they needed those grainy crystals full of flavor and to eat a few chunks of the cheese like this before their meal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a title=\"Grana Padano cheese at an Italian wedding by MsAdventuresinItaly, on Flickr\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/msadventuresinitaly\/5006889259\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4127\/5006889259_2442b178ed.jpg?resize=500%2C333\" alt=\"Grana Padana cheese at an Italian wedding\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A most extravagant display of <strong><em>aragosta, <\/em><\/strong>lobster, and quite delicious as well, though I <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msadventuresinitaly.com\/blog\/2010\/05\/18\/spiny-lobster-tail-and-asparagus-pasta-recipe\/\">tend to prefer crab to lobster<\/a>. Raw, marinated and filleted anchovies are actually delicious and should be tried in a little olive oil and lemon juice, and perhaps with <strong><em>more<\/em><\/strong>, blackberries, too.
