Seeing Carnevale through the eyes of Children

UPDATE: Just in case my “wonderful” plugin slideshow isn’t working on my site, you can click through to the Flickr slideshow of the children here.

The best part about Carnevale this year was walking around taking pictures of everyone waiting for the parade to start. I mentioned that one of the most popular parts of the Manfredonia Carnevale in Puglia is the children’s parade, which was the prior week.

But there were a lot of children out in costume waiting for the parade to begin on Sunday, and I relished walking down the wide path in the middle of the street while people lined up waiting on the sidewalks. Who says that Italians don’t know how to form a line?

This dog looks all too happy to be a part of the Carnevale celebration.

Dogs love Carnevale, too

It was so fun to see so many children dressed up – most of them were excited to have their photo taken. I spent a lot of the time laughing (in a good way) at the costumes, expressions, and general behavior of the children. It was really hard to narrow down the photos since I took so many. Here are two of my favorites -

Posing Pretty

Only the chips matter

I put the rest of the pictures in this little slideshow here. Feed reeders, you’ll have to click through to my site to see more pictures of the children I saw there. Otherwise, you can go directly to the Flickr slideshow page.

I had no idea that spiderman was a carnevale regular!

Although my favorite was the princess sitting on the curb, regarding you with a world-weary, mature-beyond-her-years squint.

Yes, she was a bit unsettling. After observing her looking like that, I wanted to take her picture but I didn’t have a zoom so I had to get up close. She didn’t change expressions at all after I asked if I could take her picture! Kids are funny.
